Living together in a colourful society

In 2001, the foundations behind PEFONDES launched a joint project called " Living together in a colourful society " : an initiative to promote democratic living together in a multi-ethnic society. This project explores the possibilities within the social economy for promoting the social inclusion of minorities. The project allows young people to reflect on the development of an ethnically diverse society in different partner countries.

From 2001 to 2003, the P&V Foundation convenes a youth forum for which it manages to mobilise some 25 young people of diverse origin from Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels. Through debates at home and abroad, these young people learn about the contours of the multi-ethnic society, study and select initiatives that, in their view, best promote the integration of young immigrants in our society. The selected initiatives are financially supported and highlighted by the P&V Foundation: Solidarcité (Brussels), Instant A (Ghent), Mini-Parliament (Mons) and Steunpunt Tewerkstelling (Antwerp). At the conclusion of the project, the French-language white paper "Economie sociale et intégration dans la société européenne des jeunes issus de l'immigration" will be solemnly presented to national and European political leaders. This project received support from the European Commission, DG Education and Culture.
